Karl Lagerfeld's Louis XV Carpet

Souvenirs from the road less travelled. They really tie the room together.

Three carpets of this exact design by Pierre-Josse Perrot were made for the Crown Furniture Repository in France, the administration responsible for furniture and art inside the royal residences.

On April 28, 2000, Christie's Monaco held a sale of items from the collection of Karl Lagerfeld, including this Louis XV Savonnerie carpet (1740-50).

The last of the three to be produced had sold for $4.4m, but this one - thanks to its star-studded provenance - sold for $5.7 million.
